Paediatric Physiotherapy
Danielle Bararuk | Julia Koop
We value a positive environment where the child feels supported and the family and the physiotherapist can work towards their goals.
Paediatric physiotherapy assists in early detection of health problems and uses a wide variety of modalities to treat disorders in the paediatric population.
Our Paediatric Physiotherapists assess and treat muscle tightness, muscle weakness, muscle endurance, postural control, balance, coordination and core stability.
Children may have received a diagnosis of torticollis, plagiocephaly, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, low muscle tone (hypotonia), autism spectrum disorder, developmental delay, or gross motor delay. Children may also purely be having trouble with motor skills that make it harder for them to keep up with their peers during activities.
Children with mild to severe motor delays can all benefit from physiotherapy. Examples of gross motor delays in the first couple years of life include crawling, sitting, walking, running, jumping, climbing and ball skills. Physiotherapy helps children improve their gross motor skills during development or after an accident or injury.
Physical Therapy visits are always play-based for babies and younger children, with the addition of gentle facilitation by the physiotherapist to promote independence in the desired motor skill.
