Lifestyle Medicine & PhysioYoga

Kim Deschamps

An in-depth and holistic whole-person approach to injury recovery, health and wellness.

Lifestyle Medicine is an approach to preventing, treating, and reversing disease by impacting unhealthy lifestyle behaviours, therefore promoting health. By diving deeper into the health story, we can determine how and why illness occurs, and restore health by addressing the root cause of disease and dysfunction. There are six main areas of focus with lifestyle medicine: a healthier eating pattern, increasing physical activity, effectively managing stress, maintaining social relationships, obtaining adequate sleep, and avoiding risky substance abuse.

PhysioYoga is a blended term that combines evidence informed physiotherapy and yoga therapy to approach health and rehabilitation resulting in a holistic or biopsychosocial approach to your rehabilitation experience. As defined by Shelly Prosko of Prosko PhysioYoga, physioyoga.ca

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

For Both Men & Women

Kim Deschamps | Danielle Bararuk

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy is the assessment and treatment of the pelvis or pelvic girdle, and the various conditions that involve the pelvic floor. When the pelvic floor isn’t functioning well, pain or other symptoms can be referred to other areas- from the rib cage to the knees, and in some cases down to the foot. The pelvic floor is a sling of muscles from tail bone to the pubic bone which play a vital role within our inner core. Some other functions include; bladder and bowel continence, birthing, and sexual function. If you are experiencing lumbopelvic, SI Joint, groin, hip, abdominal or lower extremity symptoms (pain or movement impairment) that are not improving as expected, a thorough history and pelvic floor assessment may be the missing piece.

Pelvic health is important even if you aren’t experiencing any problems. Preventative care and preparation for labor and delivery can shorten delivery times and lessen potential injury to the pelvic floor structures.

Our pelvic health physiotherapists are trained to assess and treat both male and female urinary and bowel incontinence, constipation, prenatal and postpartum care, peri/menopause related issues, pelvic organ prolapse, and pelvic pain conditions.

“We don’t just treat your symptoms. We diagnose the root cause of the issue. We design a holistic treatment plan with you to reach your goals that address the reason(s) that you sought out care.”

Paediatric Physiotherapy

Danielle Bararuk

We value a positive environment where the child feels supported and the family and the physiotherapist can work towards their goals.

Paediatric physiotherapy assists in early detection of health problems and uses a wide variety of modalities to treat disorders in the paediatric population.

Our Paediatric Physiotherapists assess and treat muscle tightness, muscle weakness, muscle endurance, postural control, balance, coordination and core stability.

Children may have received a diagnosis of torticollis, plagiocephaly, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, low muscle tone (hypotonia), autism spectrum disorder, developmental delay, or gross motor delay. Children may also purely be having trouble with motor skills that make it harder for them to keep up with their peers during activities.

Children with mild to severe motor delays can all benefit from physiotherapy. Examples of gross motor delays in the first couple years of life include crawling, sitting, walking, running, jumping, climbing and ball skills. Physiotherapy helps children improve their gross motor skills during development or after an accident or injury.

Physical Therapy visits are always play-based for babies and younger children, with the addition of gentle facilitation by the physiotherapist to promote independence in the desired motor skill.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractors are part of a mainstream health care discipline that use spinal adjustments and manual techniques as the primary methods of helping the body heal. Chiropractic focuses on the relationship between the structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health.

Chiropractors provide care for patients of all ages with a range of acute and chronic conditions. We use a variety of diagnostic methods, including x-rays & diagnostic ultrasound to discover the state of your musculoskeletal system.

Moving through a well-versed patient-led history, Dr. Kuan and Dr. Njaa will help hone in on your chief health concerns. A physical examination is always preformed which helps to clarify what bodily structures, joints, nerves and tissues are being affected, which helps to form a concrete diagnosis. Together we create strategies to help optimize your healing potential through an individualized plan of management.

Chiropractic Care is proven to help:

  • Head, neck & shoulder pain

  • Mid and low back pain

  • Tingling/numbness into arms/legs

  • Headaches & whiplash

  • Elbow and wrist pain

  • Hip/pelvic issues

  • Sports, work or accident related injuries

  • Foot & ankle pain

  • TMJ/jaw pain

  • Balancing the nervous system for optimal functioning in all systems

Massage Therapy

Ashley Preete

Throughout the world, massage therapy is an important part of self-care and health care programs.

Massage therapy is widely recognized by patients and doctors alike as an effective means of treating soft tissue pain or disability and for its value in preventative care. Massage therapy is the manual manipulation of soft body tissues (muscles, connective tissue, tendons, and ligaments) to treat and prevent dysfunction and pain.

Massage can be used to treat a variety of conditions such as back and neck pain, headaches, arthritis, and stress. A registered massage therapist is educated in the areas of anatomy, physiology, pathology, remedial exercise, mobilizations, and massage practice and theory to treat their clients. Your massage appointment will include an assessment, treatment, and a home care plan to optimally support your health and well-being.
