Inspiration from my patients & the women around me.

Written by Dr. Stephanie Liebrecht | January 15, 2021

I wanted to start 2021 by sharing with you a little bit about my journey.

I have always been fascinated by health, how our bodies work, and (the many different forms) of medicine. I believe it was because of my mother. She was my first source of inspiration. She holds so much knowledge as a nurse, and also has this inherent curiosity of “alternative” or traditional medicine. We were the kids receiving a mustard poultice during a chest infection, or drinking fresh, homemade vegetable & dandelion juice before it was cool! I was so inspired by her knowledge of health and healing, that I entered high school already knowing I wanted to become a doctor.

Throughout high school and university, my focus was getting accepted into conventional medical school. At the time, it was the only way I knew how to become a doctor. Near the end of my undergraduate studies, I started having a change of heart. Not to becoming a doctor, but because I believed there was so much more to creating health. I strongly believed that our lifestyle laid the foundation of health, and our conventional model was missing this at it’s forefront. That’s when I began exploring other types of medicine. My mom suggested something I had never heard of - naturopathic medicine. I did not know there was a profession that combined everything I had done since I was a child. I trusted it was what I was meant to do!

Fast forward 4 years. I was in my fourth year of naturopathic college and working with patients during my internship. I was working with more and more women who needed help. Help with their cycles, help with their mental/emotional health, help with their pain. I heard their stories. I listened. I cared. For some women, I was the first person to hear them, believe them, and take action. I started seeing how naturopathic medicine had the tools to create real change. I was finding passion and purpose by helping women.

Fast forward five years. I now believe my passion for women’s health is what my purpose is. I am fortunate to practice in an environment that feels as strongly about supporting women as I do! I’ve worked with many women and have heard many stories. My patients inspire me to be their health advocate, and to continue bringing awareness to women’s health. You inspire me to keep learning, keep supporting, and find the root cause. Thank you. Thank you for the impact you’ve had on me.

Yours in health,

Dr. Stephanie Liebrecht, BSc, ND
