L.O. Massage Therapy Answers Your Most Common Questions
Written by Lindsay Olver | Nov 22, 2018
Hi, I'm Lindsay, and I'm thrilled to be a massage therapist at Holistic Physiotherapy & Wellness! I would like to answer a few of the most common questions I receive from clients. If you have additional questions, do ask! I'm looking forward to seeing you soon.
Communication
To receive the full benefit of your treatment, communication is important. Let me know of recent injuries, medication, actitivites, and stress level. It's your treatment- you're in charge! For example, speak up if you would like more or less pressure, if you don't like a particular technique or have a favourite one, if you need pillows adjusted, you're too hot or too cold, or even if you change your mind completely as to what we are treating.
Your Body
Every body is beautiful. My treatment room is a judgment free zone. Don't apologize for stubbly legs or worry about scars, lumps, and bumps. It's all good. My only concern is helping you feel your best.
Disrobing
What should you keep on or off? It's completely up to you and what you're comfortable with. Only the areas being worked on will be undraped.
Do You Massage This?
The most commonly treated areas are the back and neck since clients tend to notice they carry a lot of tension there. Depending on your aggravating issue, I will suggest certain areas for treatment. Your treatment may include work on the feet, legs, glutes, arms, hands, abdomen, face, and scalp.
How Often Do I Need A Massage?
This depends on the individual. Someone working with an injury may benefit from having a treatment 2x per week while others may come once a month for maintenance work. It is important not to put a treatment off until you are in debilitating pain. While things may happen, regular treatments will keep tensions, stress, and knots at bay.
Home Care
Anything from stretching, rest, and drinking water is helpful to maintain the work we did between treatments, I also encourage working with other healthcare modalities so the whole person is happy and healthy.
