Summertime and GO!

Written by Lindsey Tasker Cole | July 14, 2020

FFFFFFFFinally! That warm weather is here, and that urge to get outside and moving is about 100% greater than it was in winter! It’s amazing how great it feels to be outdoors, with that warm sun on our skin, where long sunny days turn into beautiful evenings. You might notice your activity levels double in the summer anywhere from walking/running, to more extreme sports like mountain biking or wakeboarding. Whichever summer activity you like to partake in, it can also mean new aches and pains for joints and muscles. Spikes in activities can present as overuse injuries when they are sudden and are very common in shoulders, knees, hips and ankles. These joints see a lot more use in the summer months, and we tend to push through more pain and discomfort then we normally would because our season is so short.

Some simple tips to keep joints happy this summer:

  • Stretch before AND after activities

  • Make sure to have the right properly fitting footwear

  • Wear clothing that allows you to move the way you need too

  • Know your limitations ;)

  • Drink plenty of water

  • Make sure you are getting enough calcium and Vit D

Rather than letting a new (or maybe old) injury slow you down, or limit your participation, pop by to see one of our physiotherapists to make sure your joints are getting the love they need to serve you best!
