Meet Hilary: International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Registered Nurse (RN) and owner of Nourish

Written by Hilary Keller | June 17, 2020

I’m Hilary, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), a Registered Nurse (RN) and the owner of Nourish. I have spent 7 years specializing in both acute and community maternal and newborn care in Saskatoon.  Through this, I’ve gained extensive knowledge and have a unique level of understanding for the journey that new mothers and babies are born into. My passion stems from following moms through delivery, into those early postpartum days, transitioning home and into Motherhood. Seeing the journey, in its entirety, shone a new light on what new mothers and what their babies really need.

They need support!

And so, Nourish was born out of the need for continuity, a stable support new families can count on and to provide a safe, judgment free zone where Mother’s can come to find guidance, support and acceptance on their breastfeeding journey.

Nourish Lactation Support Services is a private practice based in Saskatoon offering personal, 1:1, pre and post natal lactation consultations. Due to COVID-19, these services are primarily being offered in the clinic at Holistic Physiotherapy and Wellness, however in-home consultations will resume when it is safe to do so! Being available to come to your home, in your environment, in the thick of any struggle is my greatest privilege. I provide you and your new family compassionate assistance during these most treasured moments, in the comfort of your own home. In light of these unprecedented times, telephone, video and text support have become integral to helping new Mothers feel supported, and are a great option if in- person appointments fall outside your comfort zone.

Breastfeeding is a natural process, but it doesn’t come naturally to everyone and that’s ok. Learning techniques, what to expect, and how to navigate those early days enable Moms to feel confident and make informed choices about their health and wellbeing. Seeking lactation and newborn support starts long before we even think of it. Booking a prenatal appointment is the best place to begin, but booking an appointment anywhere on your breastfeeding journey is the second best! Using a holistic approach, we’ll address your needs to ensure that your breastfeeding experience is one that you’ll enjoy.

We were never meant to be on this journey of motherhood alone and I’m here to help you. Initially I’ll do a detailed pre consultation to learn about you, and help identify your goals. Then I’ll give you the information and tools to help you get there. My promise to you is that if I am unable to help, I will connect you with some of the best professionals in the city who can. Whether it be ENT specialists, Chiropractors, Speech Language pathologists, Community networks or a long list of others, I will ensure that you and your baby get the help you deserve. Having the medical background of being an IBCLC and RN enable me to truly tailor your experience and provide you holistic support.

If you are pregnant, newly postpartum or nearing weaning, it is never too late to reach out and connect with me. I am a Mother, just like you, and I will welcome you with open arms, always. Nourish will forever remain a safe place for new mothers to land, find comfort, healing and peace as they navigate breastfeeding & Motherhood.
